Meet Ashro Woman of the Week, Susie S. from Little Rock, AK!

This wife, mother and woman of faith doesn’t just go through the motions. She lives with heart. For 29 years, Susie has worked as a healthcare professional who puts her faith into action every day. “What I like most about my job is that I am able to care for my patients and encourage them while they are in the hospital. I love to bring smiles to my patients’ faces.”

Susie’s care for others shines through everything she does and has committed herself to: her family, her welcoming church—even her affiliations. “I am a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta, and I am also an Eastern Star.” Who has been her greatest inspiration? Her mother. “She faced many struggles in life, and was able to care for 12 children and herself. She is truly my hero.” Susie’s greatest triumph? Going back to school and completing her college degree.

The Ashro woman is intelligent, confident, and inspiring. She lives life to the fullest while making a difference in the life of others

What do you do for a living? What do you like most about it? What don’t you like?

I am employed at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for 29 years where I am able to provide care to the sick. What I like most about my job is that I am able to I am able to care for my patients and encourage them while they are in the hospital. I love to bring smiles to my patients faces as I interact with them. Often times patients need to feel valued and appreciated and I am able to share this with them. Genuinely caring for my patients is a rewarding experience because I enjoy helping others. What I don’t like about my job is I am unable to help everyone.

How do you spend your free time?

In my free time, I enjoying living a blessed and happy life with my husband, children, and extended family. I also enjoy traveling, meeting new people and

What small thing makes you happy?

The small thing that makes me happy is helping others in need.

What is your best dish? Who do you make it for—and where do you typically serve it?

My best dish is cabbage and collard greens and I enjoy making it for my family and friends in my home.

What has been your greatest struggle…and your greatest (or latest) triumph?

My greatest struggle has been the loss of my mom. The struggle has been hard, but it has also made me a stronger woman. My greatest triumph has been going back to school and completing my college degree.

Who influenced you the most in your life. Why? And in what way?

The person who has influenced me the most has been my mother. She faced many struggles in life, and was able to care for 12 children and herself. She is truly my hero.

Are you in a sorority? Or is anyone in your family in a sorority? If so, which one and what does it mean to you?

I am a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta and I am also an Eastern Star. Being a member of Zeta Phi Beta means that I am surrounded by sisters who are community conscious and with service, scholarship and charity at heart.

What do you love about fashion and style?

What I love about fashion and style is the way they bring out my uniqueness and beautiful style imbodied in a Godly lady.

What occasions/events do you dress up for? (for example-do you often dress up for church, cultural events, charity events, going out, etc.) And how often do you typically get dressed up?

I love dressing up for church. Ashro is often my go to style for church suits and shoes. I enjoy dressing up every day and showing my style and personality.

Do you wear hats? How often and what type of hat? Do you wear them to church? If so, be sure to share a pic of you in a hat with us!

Hats are frequently part of my dressing up. I love wearing them to church and coordinating them with what I am wearing.

Do you wear wigs? How often and what length or style? If so, be sure to share a pic of you in a wig with us!

Yes, I do wear wigs. The length and style depends on how I want to look. I enjoy wearing various styles and colors

Are you a woman of faith? How does that faith affect your life? Please tell us more.

I am a strong woman of faith and you better believe it! My faith defines and as the bible states, faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.

Do you attend church? What church do you go to and what do you love most about it?

I am a member of Acts 2:4 Church of God in Christ in Little Rock, Arkansas. What I love most about my church is the close fellowship that exists among the members we are a church which welcomes all.

How are you passing along your faith traditions onto your children/grandchildren?

I have instilled in my children the importance of having a personal relationship with God and relying on their faith during the inevitable difficult times in their lives.

Your best advice?

My advice for other Ashro women is to me mindful of how you present yourself to others because it is a direct reflection of who you are and what you believe. Be confident in whose you are and know that nothing is impossible for you to achieve.

What lessons has motherhood (or being a grandmother) taught you?

Motherhood has taught me many lessons. In particular, I have learned that I am not perfect and being a mother can be a challenge. I have learned that through it all, I only want the best for my children which is why I pray more and love them harder.

Do you have a memory to share of when you first heard about Ashro or when you received your first catalog?

When I received my first Ashro catalog, I was excited to see the beautiful models and the variety of items Ashro offered.
